An hour into their story, the lobby door opened and out stepped Romeo and Wyatt, two fourteen year old gay teenagers. They had recently graduated from school with their degree in Virtual Reality and Emoji Hieroglyphics, so they had plenty of free time on their hands.

They took off their virtual glasses and let the dull hazy sunlight hit their bloodshot eyes. They stretched their arms and twisted their bodies, trying to uncoil the tension from their marathon gaming adventures. Arthur watched with curiosity as they kissed.

They had become boyfriends a year earlier after realizing their sexual attraction towards each other. Arthur liked the fact that they were affectionate, unlike his older son and daughter, who were not affectionate at all. Both of them were pansexual and enjoyed having multiple partners, and liked to show their sexual encounters on their influencer channels. They were all about random sex without emotion.

Romeo and Wyatt lived for being immersed in virtual reality and drugs. That combination connected their synapses together perfectly.

The first time Dyami saw them showing affection, he asked why they were touching their lips together. Romeo explained, “It’s called kissing. We like to kiss and have fun together. Fun comes in many ways. We’re gay, and gay boys like to kiss and do other things. You’ll understand what I’m talking about when you’re older.”

It didn’t matter to Arthur that they were gay, he liked them because they had nice personalities and were friendly. He also liked that they weren’t interested in becoming influencers. They were shy boys, but they enjoyed talking to Arthur. They were always respectful, unlike Apollo and Phoenix.

One thing Arthur didn’t like was seeing Romeo and Wyatt so high on drugs. Their consumption was getting worse by the week. “Hi boys,” he said. “Another late night in virtual reality?”

Romeo yawned, “Yep. It was amazing. We needed a break. It’s good to see you, Mr. Anong.”

“It was an intense night,” Wyatt said while lighting up a chemically laced joint. He took a deep drag and almost fell over. Romeo caught him before he fell down the steps. They sat down and shared the joint. They offered it to Arthur and Dyami, but they both politely declined.

Now flying in high gear, they became extra talkative. Wyatt was curious. “Dyami, what are you doing?”

“Umm . . .” he looked at Arthur, who nodded that it was okay to tell them. “I’m writing a book, a manga book.”

While they talked, Romeo leaned his head on Arthur’s shoulder. “They took my mom and dad three days ago. I feel some type of way about it, but . . . I don’t know what I’m feeling.”

Arthur knew he was feeling loss, but didn’t know how to explain that emotion. “They’ll probably be back in a couple of days,” he said, knowing that was a lie.

Wyatt’s parents had died two years earlier from drug overdoses. Wyatt was indifferent to their deaths. “Romeo, your parents aren’t coming back. It’s what happens. We live. We disappear. It’s the ultimate video game, don’t you think? But hey, we’re both free to do what we want now.
